Confirmed speakers/panellists

Katie Hoolahan, CEO of Virtually Healthy

During her BSc in Applied Sport & Exercise Science, Kate noticed how low adherence rates to exercise programmes were a major issue in the healthcare industry. When she first tried the HTC Vive, she realised how much potential VR had for providing a solution to this problem. During her MSc in Biomedical Engineering she decided to research into the benefits of VR and for her dissertation she designed and created a VR game aimed at easing chronic pain and inducing moderate exercise. This study and looked into the feasibility of VR as a form of motivational exercise therapy, providing positive results. Upon finishing university, Kate created Virtually Healthy to use VR to help with fitness and the management of various health conditions. Our first aim is to analyse the movements induced by a variety of VR games to determine the health benefits and use these games to create specific exercise programmes for mental and physical health conditions such as chronic pain, obesity, sciatica and depression.
