AILA is an interactive sculptural work which allows visitors to interact with a series of themed masks. Each mask is based on a different Jungian archetype, the mother (representing the voice of the planet), the warrior, the artist, the sage, the rebel and the reaper. When the audience member selects a mask they place it on the central plinth where the mask engages them in conversation which is entirely audio based.

Each archetype is made using an AI system contained within the installation and loaded on a series of Raspberry Pi’s.

Engagement with this installation has been phenomenal, and often holds the audiences attention for some time, with them coming back to use it several times during its installation. Acting ultimately as the soothsayer of ancient cultures in a contemporary world. A non-judgemental system with an ethereal presentation that entices people to ask deeper questions they may not ask their peers. All interactions are completely anonymous with a purely text based log of what sort of questions people are asking, with the most common being “what is the meaning of life” which shows a desire within audiences to explore greater meaning within their own lives.

This installation received the “Most Innovative Use of Tech” award from Infinite Form in 2024 and was displayed at The Art Tech Festival in 2025.
